GUUF SOCIAL ACTION COMMITTEE The GUUF Social Action Committee provides the leadership and coordination to support and encourage the members of GUUF – individually and collectively - on their passions for justice within the framework of UU principles. The Social Justice Council invites every member and friend to put their faith into action - through active involvement. The Social Action Committee is one of several committees composed of members of the Glacier UU Fellowship which meets monthly or bimonthly after our Sunday service.   Our mission is to find ways through worship, activities with the children and youth, and in the community to work towards peace, environmental justice and human rights.       This year we are starting a monthly “Share the Plate” collection in place of our offertory at Sunday services.  This offertory will go to a local or international service organization.  Some of these will include the local Food Banks, Violence Free Crisis Line, Montana Human Rights Network, Unicef, and the local Samaritan House.       Many of the Social service activities at Church are led by our children and youth.   This year during each of our services, you will see the “Generosity Wagon” pass through the aisles before the Children’s moment in the service, pulled by one of our 5 to 8 year olds.  Their class is asking  that members and guests bring food or cash contributions for the local Food Banks or the Samaritan House in Kalispell.  Our 3rd  to 5th grade class is making sure all paper, plastic, glass and tin or aluminum used at GUUF is recycled with several recycle bins through the church.  The Junior High and Senior High Youth Group have several social justice projects through the year associated with their Youth Group.  The largest of these is the annual “Oxfam” Dinner in March, where members of several congregations are invited to share an international dinner, learn about food distribution through the world, and make contributions to international programs through Oxfam International.        Our adult and children participate in our Unitarian Universalist Service Committee annual fund drive.  The UUSC is a human rights organization working nationally and internationally to promote the collective struggle for human rights.  We will have our “Guest at Your Table” service on November 21, highlighted by distribution of our colorful guest at your table collection boxes.  In 2009/2010 we collected over $2000 to donate to UUSC.         Other local ways GUUF is involved in local projects include Habitat for Humanity work days, participation in Homeless Connect in Kalispell, and marching in the Gay Pride Parade with our banner in 2009 and 2010.  We welcome new members and interested visitors!
